Summary:
BF&S provided the funding assistance, conceptual layout, survey, design, utility coordination, right-of-way services, and construction inspection of the 93rd Avenue Intersection Improvement Project and Erie Lackawanna Trailhead.
The intersection for 93rd Avenue and Chase posed safety problems due to poor lane delineation, vertical curvature, and an unimproved trail access. The location was the sight of many accidents, including driver and pedestrian fatalities. The project corrected the safety issues through the construction of a roundabout and trailhead.
Improvement feature a roundabout with pedestrian facilities, the creation of an additional leg of the intersection which controlled access to the enhanced trailhead complete with a parking lot and shelter, improved drainage, and ornamental lighting. The intersection of 93rd with SR 55 received ADA access improvement and ped signals.
The roundabout and trailhead received both aesthetic improvements, including brick and limestone hard scape and low maintenance landscape. The overall site received drainage improvements inclusive of two new detention ponds, which control the release of storm water into the adjacent wetland.
