Bloomington B-Line Trail
Bloomington, IN
City of Bloomington
Summary:
BF&S provided civil engineering services for the City of Bloomington’s B-Line Trail Phases I & II. This exciting new amenity in the heart of the pedestrian-friendly downtown area provides Bloomington with an alternative transportation route as well as new recreational opportunities. The 3.1-mile link connects downtown merchants, professional business offices, government agencies, and the convention center.
Extensive coordination and layers of communication between the City of Bloomington, BF&S, and the contractors ensured continuity to complete both phases over a three-year period. The project involved several signature features including the Third Street Gateway, which is a five-span pedestrian bridge crossing at Patterson Avenue, as well as the Wonderlab and Farmer’s Market Plazas. These areas are now suitable for performances and festivals with the drainage work and decorative lighting that were added to the area.
Bloomington’s vision to create a truly special urban corridor came to fruition with the completion of the B-Line Trail. This amenity adds to the quality of life for the citizens of Bloomington and serves as a unique example that has been inspirational to the development of other Indiana urban/suburban trails.
