Summary:

BF&S assisted Huntington County with the reconstruction of three miles of roadway along with the installation of a new bridge and reconstruction of two other bridges. This INDOT on-call project called for the management of a variety of staff in various disciplines and required experts in erosion control and utility coordination. Day-to-day project administration was maintained using specialty software designed for similar complex projects. Collaboration with multiple engineering firms was needed and supervision of three inspectors on daily work inspections was essential. Special attention was paid to utility coordination as it required multiple utility companies to coordinate relocations throughout the entire project. Over the course of two years, large-scale earthwork road reconstruction was completed, road lanes were expanded from two lanes to five, road realignment was achieved, and a new bridge over a busy railroad was constructed. During this time, existing bridge reconstruction and widening was also finished, and multiple box culverts were installed. This multi-layered project posed many challenges including utility relocation and property owner issues. Fortunately, BF&S skillfully developed solutions in a timely and cost-effective manner. When the project was complete, utilities were successfully relocated, sensitive environmental issues were resolved, new waterways were constructed, and multiple wetlands were mitigated.
